Nuneaton Town FC v Hednesford Town FC (Youth)
With memories of the recent draw at Keys Park still fresh in the mind, Paul Casey was able to field a strong defensive line up, with Tom Howard restored to the starting line up and given the Captains armband at right back.
Ben Bailey and Richard Dunleavy at centre backs, with Ben Farrall at no 3 added to the experienced look of the back four.
Under 16 midfield powerhouse Joshua Allen-Noble was soon in action winning a fine tackle to set up a Jordan Nadat cross to Oliver Casey.
Hednesford continued to get the best of the early exchanges but in the 12th minute Nuneaton came close with a cross into the box which was cleared by Dunleavy.
Mark Bandurak came close with a number of header opportunities through the middle of the half but still there was no breakthrough for all of the good possession.
On 36 minutes the home side got a good header on target but Dale Faultless in goal was up to the task. The busy Jordan Nadat was extremely unlucky on the stroke of half time as he sidestepped two tackles and hit a fierce shot which cannoned off the post.
Early in the second half Oliver Casey was again free in the box but his early shot cleared the crossbar, when he could have done better.
The energetic Allen-Noble was winning tackles all over the midfield and was nearly rewarded for his hard work in the 59th minute when his close range shot was spectacularly saved by the home keeper.
In the 69th minute the deadlock was finally broken when substitute Rhys Swetnam made a fine run into the box and pulled the ball square for JORDAN NADAT to score with style.
For the remaining 20 minutes it was pretty much one way traffic, with the young Pitmen carving out chances but failing to convert them into more goals.
Richard Dunleavy ventured forward for a corner kick in the 85th minute and his towering header just cleared the bar when he looked certain to score.
Paul Casey will be pleased with the two clean sheets this week but will have some concerns at the failure to convert territorial advantage into goals.
Plus points were the excellent form of Jordan Nadat and the unearthing of another young gem in Joshua Allen-Noble, we will be seeing a lot more of ‘Nobby' in the future.
