More Success For Young Pitmen
Hednesford Town completed a remarkable season to be crowned South Staffs Young Womens League U11 Champions following their second 2-0 victory in a week over closest rivals Starland St Annes. The victory saw them claim the title by six points and completed a unprecedented record which see's them unbeaten in league action for two whole season's.
Town went into the game three points in front of second place Starlands in positive mood and withstood early pressure and midway through the half they began to exert more pressure with Eve Hilditch and Naomi Aston both going close. Hollie Nelson in the Hednesford goal had to be alert to a number of long range efforts.
The 2nd half began all square but Hednesford soon took charge with Opposition player of the Match Ria Elsmore, Megan Weldon and Aston dominating the midfield. Shortly after the restart Elsmore gave them the lead with a tremendous right foot shot from outside the box which found the bottom left hand corner. Hilditch and Aston again went close before Weldon saw her effort crash against the woodwork. Gemma Bailey & Megan Ellis were again outstanding at the back to preserve their amazing record of just two goals being conceded from 21 league outings. Molly Jowett replaced Eve Hilditch and she made an instant impact when she added the second with a driven shot which gave the keeper no chance.

The final whistle was greeted with a jubilant raw as Hendesford went one step further than last season. This has been a truly memorable season for the Hednesford Girls who take on Stafford Town in next week’s cup semi final hoping to secure a return trip to this venue for the cup final and a possible double.
